MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov has arrived in Ghana for a working visit, the first in the history of bilateral relations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the very first day of the visit, the minister met with Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama. The Belarusian top diplomat conveyed greetings from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the occasion of the upcoming Independence Day of Ghana and a personal invitation to visit Minsk.
John Dramani Mahama gratefully accepted the invitation and proposed coordinating specific dates through diplomatic channels. He conveyed warm wishes in return to the Belarusian leader and fondly recalled his unofficial visit to Belarus in 2024.
“At the center of the negotiations were the prospects for bilateral cooperation. The president of Ghana particularly highlighted the agricultural sector, proposing to develop a five-year program for cooperation in agriculture. He also noted that this year the first major order of Belarusian machinery is expected within the framework of the renewed agenda. Separately, John Dramani Mahama noted that a Belarusian tractor, distinguished by its high reliability, is still operating successfully on his personal farm," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The parties agreed to resume regular political dialogue: to hold consultations between the foreign ministries and to convene a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation. Ghana also expressed interest in developing cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism.
Maxim Ryzhenkov confirmed Belarus' commitment to expanding cooperation in the areas of education, military-technical interaction, and food security, noting that Ghana is among the priority partners of Belarus on the African continent.
Summarizing the meeting, the president of Ghana assured that he would send a delegation to Minsk for detailed elaboration of areas of cooperation, and once again confirmed his intention to visit Belarus on an official visit, which will give a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
