Sabalenka advances to Doha 2020 semifinal

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has reached the semifinal of the ongoing Qatar Total Open in Doha, BelTA has learned.

On 27 February, Belarus' world number 13 Aryna Sabalenka fought through Zheng Saisai of China (World No.37) 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes.

In the Doha opener Aryna Sabalenka outlasted Estonia's world number 22 Anett Kontaveit 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Then, she needed just 55 minutes to see off Greece's world number 20 Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-0.

Aryna Sabalenka and Belgium's Elise Mertens won the doubles opener against Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States and Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 6-7, 6-2, 10-7. The Belarusian-Belgian tandem lost 6-4, 1-6, 4-10 to Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko for the spot in the semifinal.

At the TEREGA Open Pau Pyrenees in France the Belarusian-Israeli duo of Andrei Vasilevski and Jonathan Erlich lost to Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili and Slovakia's Lukas Lacko 7-6, 6-7, 8-10 in the round of Last 16.
