MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) - On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus, NOC President Viktor Lukashenko has sent greetings to new head of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.
Mikhail Degtyarev was elected as the ROC head unopposed. Mikhail Degtyarev succeeded four-time Olympic fencing champion Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who in November announced his decision to step down two years ahead of the end of his term of office. Mikhail Degtyarev became the fifth president of the Russian Olympic Committee.
“This is a big event for the entire Olympic family. I am confident that your many years of experience and leadership qualities will help you in your new role and the Russian Olympic Committee will reach new heights and the Olympic movement will continue to develop dynamically. I hope that every day of work will be filled with successes, and cooperation between our Olympic Committees will grow stronger and more diverse,” reads the congratulatory message from the head of the Belarusian NOC.
