Kochanova puts forward initiative on Council of Women of Belarus and China

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova suggested setting up a Council of Women of Belarus and China as he met with Shen Yiqin, President of the All-China Women's Federation, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China of the 20th convocation, member of the Party Group of the State Council, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 28 May, BelTA has learned.

“I sincerely invite you to visit Belarus. We will be glad to see you in our country,” Natalya Kochanova said addressed her Chinese colleague. “During your visit we could work out a roadmap for our cooperation. We hope you will accept the invitation and visit our country in the near future.”

“It is very important for us to implement the agreements and decisions that were adopted earlier by our heads of state, governments, public organizations,” the speaker stressed. “I suggest considering the issue of setting up a Council of Women under our (my and your patronage). The Council will monitor the implementation of the tasks set by the heads of state. At the same time, we can work more effectively at this level, including addressing the tasks of preserving peace and tranquility in our countries, as well as considering the women's agenda of Belarus and China. During your visit we can make a relevant decision.”

The All-China Women's Federation is the largest women's social organization in China, founded in March 1949. Chinese women are an important force in the construction of socialism. At the initial stage of socialism, the federation had to unite and educate, to implement the main line of the Party.

The initiative to develop women's cooperation between Belarus and China was voiced by Natalya Kochanova at the meeting with Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, in June 2021. The proposal was supported in China. A seminar of women parliamentarians was held on 29 April 2022. It was headed by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, former President of the All-China Women's Federation. During the seminar, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Belarusian Women's Union and the All-China Women's Federation, marking a new stage of cooperation between women's movements.
