"On Point"
MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - The perception of the United States as a superpower in today’s world is geopolitical psychosomatics and is hardly aligned with America’s real capabilities, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s channel.
“Our understanding of the United States as a superpower is most likely geopolitical psychosomatics. Because there is a big difference between actually being powerful and simply appearing powerful. Of course, the United States is trying to maintain its status and its habit of being a hegemon. Nevertheless, it clearly lacks the strength to do so in a changing world. The economies of many countries are developing at very rapid pace. The heights that used to take decades to reach now take just a few years. And here the United States is clearly not keeping up,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
Earlier, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with RT that the reckless U.S. adventure in Iran showed that the United States, while still a superpower, is no longer a superforce. The Belarusian leader also noted that if the Americans could not handle Iran, they certainly cannot handle China, which the USA sees as its main enemy. Commenting on the Belarusian leader’s remarks, Aleksandr Tishchenko noted that China has embedded itself quite firmly into the structure of the global economy in general and the U.S. economy in particular.
“The United States will not be able to do anything with China. It would take many years and trillions of dollars to remove Chinese presence from the U.S. economy. Many American industries are tied to China. Americans need to think very carefully before going after China, especially after Iran. Tehran has shown that the United States is certainly not all powerful,” the expert added.
