MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – NATO is considering plans to blockade Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast by air, sea, and land, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of BelTA’s V Teme [On Point] project.
Speaking about NATO’s potential plans for Kaliningrad Oblast, Viktor Baranets pointed out that the alliance envisions a scenario involving the creation of a so-called A2/AD (anti-access/area denial) zone. “We are aware of the enemy's plans: to blockade Kaliningrad Oblast by air, sea and land,” he said.

The military observer stated that NATO exercises near Kaliningrad Oblast and the borders of Belarus are being conducted almost continuously. Furthermore, the alliance’s grouping concentrated in this region is quite substantial in size. “In terms of overall military capacity, including manpower, aircraft, tanks, missiles, and anti-aircraft systems, the enemy surpasses us, and our General Staff does not hesitate to say so,” the military observer added.

Nevertheless, Viktor Baranets emphasized that in the event of NATO aggression, Kaliningrad Oblast would not defend itself single-handedly. To protect its territory, Russia could deploy strategic bombers equipped with various types of missiles. At the same time, Kaliningrad Oblast itself possesses the necessary weaponry to defend against any potential adversary.
