MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Belarus has sown more than half of areas designated for maize, the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.
According to operational data as of 6 May 2026, spring crops have been sown on an area of 1,654,000 hectares, which accounts for 72% of the total sowing area of 2,294,000 hectares.
The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast – 323,000 hectares (78% of planned areas); Vitebsk Oblast – 236,000 hectares (73%); Gomel Oblast – 244,000 hectares (61%); Grodno Oblast – 256,000 hectares (77%); Minsk Oblast – 373,000 hectares (75%); Mogilev Oblast – 222,000 hectares (68%).
Maize has been sown in all regions of the country on a total area of 709,000 hectares, accounting for 55% of the plan of 1,283,000 hectares.
More than 1,000 hectares of millet have been sown (14% of the plan of 8,000 hectares).
Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for the 2026 spring sowing have been stockpiled in the amount of 801,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 96% of the plan.
Organic fertilizers for spring sowing have been applied in the amount of 42 million tonnes, which is 79% of the amount transported to the fields.
Potatoes have been planted on an area of more than 12,000 hectares, which is 53% of the plan of 22,000 hectares. The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast – 62% of planned areas; Vitebsk Oblast – 31%; Gomel Oblast – 51%; Grodno Oblast – 68%; Minsk Oblast – 50%; Mogilev Oblast 51%.
Vegetable crops (cabbage, beetroot, carrots, etc.) have been sown on 5,000 hectares, or 59% of the planned 8,000 hectares.
