Belarus’ MFA hails IOC’s decision to lift restrictions on Belarusian athletes 

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - The consistent defense of Belarusian athletes’ rights has led to the natural result, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus commented on the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to fully lift unfair restrictions on Belarusian athletes, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian athletes can now compete under their own flag and anthem at international tournaments and the Olympic Games. That is the natural result of consistently standing up for athletes’ rights,” the ministry stressed.

Earlier, the National Olympic Committee of Belarus (NOC) also welcomed the decision of the IOC’s Executive Board. “The decision is of great importance for the entire Belarusian sports community and is a long-awaited event for every athlete in the country. On behalf of the entire Belarusian sports community, we express our gratitude to President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Kirsty Coventry for her balanced and principled stance,” the NOC said in an official statement.

Belarusian athletes will now compete with their flag and anthem without any restrictions at all international events.
