BREST, 7 May (BelTA) – Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Vladimir Orlovsky provided an update on the exit of Lithuanian-registered trucks from Belarus as he talked with journalists, BelTA has learned.
“In November last year, the unfriendly actions of the Lithuanian side in closing border checkpoints led to a collapse on the access roads. Belarus was forced to take action and accommodate Lithuanian-registered trucks at designated sites. During this period, Lithuanian carriers attempted to resolve the issue with their government, but, predictably, were unsuccessful. They then appealed to our head of state, and a decision was made to allow these trucks to leave the country, provided that parking and storage fees are paid,” Vladimir Orlovsky recalled.
According to him, nearly 1,700 Lithuanian vehicles have already left Belarus. Just over 200 remain – approximately 12% of the original number. “The work is proceeding smoothly. According to our forecasts, this issue will be resolved by the end of May. Those vehicles whose owners wish to leave will depart from Belarus,” the State Customs Committee chairman said.
As previously reported, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, having reviewed an appeal from foreign carriers, decided to allow Lithuanian-registered trucks to exit the country. Since November 2025, these vehicles had been on Belarusian territory due to the unfriendly actions of the Lithuanian side in closing checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. More than 1,900 vehicles, including tractors, trailers, and semi-trailers, were held at designated sites. Throughout the entire period, their full safety and security were ensured.
