VITEBSK, 11 July (BelTA) - People’s Artist of the Soviet Union Edita Piekha got emotional as she received a star with her name on the alley of the laureates of the President’s special award “Through Art to Peace and Mutual Understanding” (the Walk of Fame) in Vitebsk. The audience got very emotional too and gave the legendary artist the prolonged applause, BelTA has learnt.
Touched by a warm welcome Edita Piekha said that she is at home in Vitebsk: “Vitebsk is very special: people here are smiling, they can simply come up to me and say “Hello!” Being overcome with emotion she said: “When people are very happy, they look silly. Something like this is happening to me now,” she said.
Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov thanked the artist for her inner light she brings to her many fans. “Today’s event is our tribute to you for everything you have done both for Slavonic Bazaar and for Belarus,” the Minister said. Boris Svetlov expressed hope that two more stars with the Piekha name will be added to the alley in the future, meaning Edita Piekha’s daughter Ilona Bronevitskaya and her grandson Stas Piekha, who also attended the ceremony.
