MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - The Central Election Commission set the date for the Belarusian People's Congress on 24-25 April, BelTA has learned.
"Setting the date of the first meeting of the Belarusian People's Congress, we were guided by the constitution and also by the organizational and technical measures needed to prepare and conduct the Belarusian People's Congress," Igor Karpenko said.
"Convening a meeting of more than a thousand people requires great efforts: this is the invitation of delegates, transport logistics, access control, work documents, arrangement of places for secret voting, which is required by law in the election of the chairman of the Belarusian People's Congress, the Presidium and many more things. All this requires advance and thorough preparation," Igor Karpenko said. “Therefore, it is no secret that before setting the date, we conducted consultations with all stakeholders. A national organizing committee was set up,. It is headed by the prime minister. Several meetings were held with the head of state. Today, the Central Election Commission formalized the date of the first meeting of the Belarusian People's Congress in accordance with the law."
