MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the Minsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital on New Year's Eve, BelTA learned.
In recent years, Minsk Children's Regional Hospital has undergone major renovations. In 2020, the hospital upgraded its facilities and extended the surgical service. In 2024, the anesthesiology and resuscitation units were modernized, which raised the quality of medical care to a new level.
“Have you done everything here or is there anything else you need to do?” the president asked upon his arrival.
“Almost everything,” Dmitry Zaitsev, chief physician of Minsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, replied.
Governor of Minsk Oblast Regional Aleksandr Turchin specified that the surgical unit for adult patients is slated for completion soon. In the meantime, some adults are treated in the children's hospital.
The president has instructed not to delay the construction of the surgical building at the regional hospital. Aleksandr Turchin said that internal works are already underway there and assured, the construction will be completed by 9 May 2026.
The head of state was briefed on the work of the hospital and the prospects of its development. According to Dmitry Zaitsev, the hospital provides health services to about 22,000 patients and performs over 13,000 surgeries annually.
"What issues do the staff face nowadays?" Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.
According to the chief physician, the most pressing issue for the medical staff is housing. But the hospital tries to tackle it.
"You mean there are those who have no apartment of their own?" the president clarified.
"Yes, but we have plans to provide them with rented housing. Construction is already underway," Dmitry Zaitsev replied.
"If medical workers want to have good housing, we invite to live and work in Belarus. We will provide them with accommodation," the head of state emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also emphasized the high quality of medical services provided at the hospital. In this regard, he asked whether the hospital provides medical care to residents of other regions.
"It certainly does when it has the opportunity. The hospital's specialists provide assistance and inpatient services, hold consultations," Belarusian Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev said.
The president was shown the anesthesiology and resuscitation units that have undergone major renovations. The president also got familiar with the work of the pediatric cardiology and rheumatology department and inspected the conditions created in the healthcare institution for children and their parents.
