MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has tested a new wood chopping axe which was gifted to him by students of Minsk State Automotive Engineering College during his visit to Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) on 21 January, BelTA has learned.

“The wood chopping axe, made and gifted to the president by students of Minsk State Automotive Engineering College, has passed its first and main crash test,” the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo wrote, accompanying the news with photos of the head of state chopping wood.

It was noted that the president has time to chop wood only late in the evening. But he kept his promise.

In accordance with the president's instruction to develop Belarus-made axes that should be as good as foreign analogues, students of Minsk State Automotive Engineering College set up workshops to manufacture firewood chopping axes. “We hope that this axe will become your favorite because it is made by our younger generation,” said Vladimir Shibeko, head of the administration of Zavodskoi District of Minsk.

Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked for this unexpected gift and promised to put it to use before the election and, if necessary, to provide firewood “from under this axe”.
