Lukashenko warns of Zelensky’s return to militarization

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) - Vladimir Zelensky has once again taken the path of militarization and succumbed to the West, which could threaten the loss of Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with RT, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that he knows Vladimir Zelensky relatively well and sympathizes with him, despite his criticism. “He inherited Ukraine already in its finished form. Yes, he should have changed that policy, but he did not change it. That national frenzy, that nationalism that the Ukrainian people were gripped by. He did not turn that policy around. But because he was inexperienced, he did not manage many of the processes. And the nationalists gained the upper hand. He couldn’t handle it. We had something similar here, but God helped me cope with it,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The president suggested that Vladimir Zelensky lacked the character and certain experience to handle the problems that existed in Ukraine. At the same time, the Belarusian leader believes that if the country had been led by a rational person focused on supporting Ukrainians, the people would have followed him.

“But he did not do that. He did not become a leader back then, and he has not become one now. He must understand that he is paying too high a price for what has happened, for that policy, for the war that is going on today,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko. “He must understand this, and he must understand that if he does not stop, he will lose Ukraine. He must weigh things and draw the appropriate conclusions. He has once again taken the path of militarization. He has once again succumbed to the West, which supposedly will give him money and give him weapons.”
The Belarusian president noted that his ancestors were born in Ukraine and that he feels sorry for the Ukrainian people, who are now paying for their own decisions: “After all, they elected Zelensky as president. They knew he was an inexperienced person, didn’t they? They knew. They knew his flaws? Perhaps they didn’t know. Why did they vote for him? They actually elected Zelensky as president.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that in his first years as president, he too was somewhat “green”. “But I had solid ground under my feet, a certain amount of life experience. While he had a show. And the Ukrainians knew that too. Yet they elected him. To be fair, there wasn’t much of a choice to pick from. The alternatives weren’t great either... They elected him, and now they are paying for it, paying a very high price,” the president said.

“I have no right to blame the Ukrainian people. But let the Ukrainians figure it out. They share some of the blame in this too. They elected this president democratically. Well, then they have to answer for him,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
The head of state noted that, overall, wealthy people fought for power in Ukraine, which may be explained by corruption. “In the end, you have Zelensky and Poroshenko. All of them are tied to big money. I suspect, actually, I don’t just suspect, we know this, that they didn’t earn that money themselves. Not all of that money was earned by them. They are all wealthy and tied to the West. And the West has leverage to control these people,” he emphasized.
