Call on Belarus, Syria to strengthen economic and humanitarian cooperation

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) — Belarus seeks to intensify economic and humanitarian cooperation with Syria, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh in Minsk on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

"In these difficult conditions it is important to maintain momentum in the cooperation at a high and inter-agency levels and business cooperation. We understand that due to a number of reasons related to international situation and geopolitical tensions we have not yet reached the level of economic cooperation to match our political partnership," Roman Golovchenko said.
He noted that Belarus and Syria should keep going for momentum and should not cite the difficulties to justify the lack of proper progress in economic relations. "We should steadily work on it. We expect your visit to give the necessary impetus to economic and humanitarian cooperation between our countries. I know that yesterday you held a number of meetings, including meaningful talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs," the prime minister stated.
The prime minister added that he is ready to discuss any issues of Belarus-Syria relations.
