MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Belarus Razmik Khumaryan in the upper house of the parliament in Minsk on 15 April, BelTA has learned.

“I am sincerely glad to welcome you in the Council of the Republic. Our countries enjoy good relations and share a glorious history. We hope that in the future the relations between Belarus and Armenia will develop in a fruitful way despite the current situation with Western countries trying to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. This is certainly unacceptable. We need to unite to ensure the security of our countries,” said Natalya Kochanova.

The speaker of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament is convinced that the historical roots and the established friendship between the nations are the guarantee of further work for the benefit of the two countries. “We see how well the trade and economic cooperation is developing. It is important that we cooperate in various areas of activities. The cooperation between the MPs is important for us because these are the people who must stand for the national interests and do everything for a close and fruitful contact,” she stated.

“We can't help but be concerned about statements of some of our counterparts in Armenia. We still hope that we will cooperate in a legal way so that these relations develop amicably. We are obliged to do everything to support each other at international organizations,” Natalya Kochanova said. “Speaking about the trade, we understand that it should be mutually beneficial. We are ready to work in all the areas: supply our goods, open joint facilities and enterprises.”

Natalya Kochanova and Razmik Khumaryan discussed the current state and prospects of contacts between Belarus and Armenia in political, trade, economic, investment, humanitarian, cultural, tourist and other areas. The parties stressed that the two countries had a good potential for cooperation and reaffirmed their interest in the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

“I am glad to have this meeting today. I am glad to have this chance to communicate with the politicians of Belarus. It's hard to find any integration association where we do not participate and cooperate together. Our mutual support in various international organizations is a long-standing tradition. The historical roots of our peoples and our friendship is also a well-known fact,” Razmik Khumaryan stressed.

Belarus and Armenia established diplomatic relations on 11 June 1993. Belarus opened its embassy in Armenia in 2001. The Armenian diplomatic mission was set up in Minsk in 1993.
