GOMEL, 14 April (BelTA) - A delegation of Gomel Oblast headed by Governor Ivan Krupko is on a visit to Bryansk Oblast of Russia, BelTA learned from the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
"We are pleased to welcome your delegation on the Bryansk land in the run-up to the Great Victory Day, the main holiday for Belarus and Russia. Our ancestors fought together; Gomel Oblast and Bryansk Oblast has the largest partisan movements. Now the Western world is trying to separate our Slavic peoples, but they will not succeed," Governor of Bryansk Oblast Alexander Bogomaz said as he welcomed his Belarusian counterpart. He noted that the trade between the two regions is growing every year. "We work together. Our joint ventures have been doing very well. I am sure that the projects we have planned in economy, manufacturing sector, culture and sport will come to fruition," the governor of Bryansk Oblast said.
Ivan Krupko thanked Alexander Bogomaz for the hospitality. "We are pleased to be in Bryansk Oblast. We always feel at home here. The people of our regions are not just friends but brothers. We have many joint projects. I am glad that a lot of things have worked out and we will continue on this path. Not much time is left before the landmark holiday in the history of our countries, so we are looking forward to hosting your delegation in Gomel on 9 May. Every third Belarusian died during the Great Patriotic War. Such a thing cannot be forgotten and forgiven. It is important we tell our youth about the war in order to preserve the historical memory," Governor of the Belarusian region Ivan Krupko said.
He also invited a delegation of the Russian region to the Slavic Unity festival, the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, the Gomel-Bryansk regional forum.
