Promising areas of cooperation between Belarus, Russia’s Krasnodar Territory outlined

GRODNO, 12 March (BelTA) - Machine building, food products, tourism, cultural and educational exchanges are promising areas of cooperation between Belarus, Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, Alexander Ruppel, Deputy Governor of Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, told reporters after a joint meeting of the working group on cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and Russia’s Krasnodar Territory in Grodno, BelTA learned.

According to Alexander Ruppel, Grodno Oblast has recently become the curator of the cooperation between Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Belarus in general. “This is our second meeting to date, which really speaks of positive shifts and fundamental development between Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Belarus as a whole. We discussed machine building, construction, and the supply of goods, works and services. This is very important for strengthening the economic sovereignty of both our region and the Republic of Belarus,” he said.

Alexander Ruppel added that the parties found a lot of points of contact not only in the economy, but also in culture and national matters. “Therefore, the potential is huge, and we move forward year by year, building up mutual cooperation,” Alexander Ruppel emphasized.
Speaking about landmark projects and plans, Alexander Ruppel noted: “For example, we already run an assembly facility with Minsk Tractor Plant, we have discussed steps regarding the production of certain types of tractors. Taking into account the economy, maybe they are not very popular in Belarus, but they are very important for our horticulture, viticulture. Krasnodar Territory is the wine capital of the country so this tractor is very important for us. The technical documentation is completely new; a completely new tractor has already been developed. Today we have signed a special investment contract, we are waiting for the federal center to okay it to start the production of this tractor in Krasnodar Territory”. He added that cooperation has been established with the Belarusian Gomselmash in terms od production of harvesters and reapers, and the output increases every year.
“We also discussed the results of the cooperation with MAZ. We are interested in the supply of chassis to complete the assembly in our region. MAZ can supply us with good samples of trucks, and public transport vehicles (the market of Krasnodar Territory is huge and we have many companies that are interested in replacing the rolling stock),” Alexander Ruppel noted. “Wastewater disposal, water treatment were on the agenda too. “We agreed that we will expand the roadmap of cooperation in the areas that are important for us.”

The parties are working to establish air service between Krasnodar Territory and Grodno Oblast. Cooperation in sport, namely the organization of joint martial arts competitions, cultural exchanges and student exchanges, is seen as promising.

“In general, we understand that the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation share the mentality, history and we should move forward shoulder to shoulder,” Alexander Ruppel noted.

Following the meeting the parties signed a number of documents : an agreement on cooperation and development of ties between Grodno City Council of Deputies and Krasnodar City Duma, a memorandum of cooperation between Grodno District of Grodno Oblast (Republic of Belarus) and Ust-Labinsk District of Krasnodar Territory (Russian Federation), a partnership agreement between Grodno College of Sectoral Technologies and Krasnodar Trade and Economic College.
