MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) - Creating attractive labor conditions in small towns is one of the priority tasks for the country, Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar said during his visit to Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

The minister took part in the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee meeting to discuss the region’s social and economic performance in Q1 2025. One of the central topics was to improve the efficiency of the region’s organizations. The minister emphasized the need to revise the perspective plans of a number of enterprises in order to achieve a level of wages not lower than the average across the sector, and to strengthen the work of local authorities in this area.

“Focus on people makes regions strong. To keep young people in small towns, it is necessary to create decent conditions for life and work there,” Yuri Chebotar said.

The minister also visited Tolochin District to meet with the personnel of the Tolochin cannery. Yuri Chebotar spoke about the country’s economic performance. The participants of the meeting also discussed the development prospects of the enterprise. Special attention was paid to the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The minister emphasized the importance of preserving the historical memory, multiplying achievements for future generations.

“At the cost of enormous sacrifices, our grandfathers and great-grandfathers defended freedom and independence, restored the destroyed economy, laying the foundation of our future. It is difficult to conceive how strenuous this task was as the whole country lay in ruins. The most terrible and irretrievable were human losses: every third person died. We must remember and honor their great feat of arms and labor and together do everything possible to preserve peace in our land, to strengthen and develop the national economy,” said Yuri Chebotar.

The minister also got familiar with the progress of investment projects at the Bonshe and Beltrubplast enterprises.
