Belarusian Railways, Moscow Railway sketch out freight transportation plans

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – Representatives of Belarusian Railways and Moscow Railway have mapped out plans for future work to ensure the unhindered passage of freight traffic, the Belarusian Railways press service told BelTA after a conference of representatives of freight divisions in the Russian city of Smolensk.

The Belarusian Railways delegation was headed by Irina Kaplevskaya, First Deputy Head of the Freight Operations and Foreign Economic Activities Service of Belarusian Railways, while the Moscow Railway delegation was headed by Artyom Ustinov, Deputy Head of the Smolensk Territorial Administration of the Moscow Railway branch of OAO Russian Railways (RZD).

The conference also gathered representatives of the freight operations and foreign economic activities divisions of Belarusian Railways, the freight operations divisions of the Minsk branch, the Gomel branch, the Mogilev branch, and the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railways, the stations Orsha, Gomel, Vitebsk, the Russian Railways proprietary transport service center, the stations Vyazma, Smolensk-Sortirovochny, Bryansk-Lgovsky, and representatives of the Moscow Traffic Management Directorate.

The negotiations focused on minimizing technical and technological barriers at the interstate junctions of Belarusian Railways and Moscow Railway during freight transportation, the introduction of the latest technologies to increase the reliability and attractiveness of rail transport for both Russian and Belarusian shippers.

The specialists discussed in detail a complex of practical matters that directly affect the speed and quality of freight transportation. The parties analyzed the main violations of transportation rules, including rules for the placement and securing of cargoes, identified during the transfer of railcars and containers in January-November 2025, and worked out a number of management decisions to minimize them in the future. Close attention was paid to ensuring non-returnable technology, eliminating commercial malfunctions at the place of their detection, and eliminating unproductive runs of railcars. The procedure for completing transport documents when receiving and transferring cargoes between railways was looked into. Plans to improve freight operations and commercial operations were discussed.

“The synchronization of processes between Moscow Railway and Belarusian Railways in Smolensk is another confident step towards the creation of technological and uninterrupted transport space, which represents the backbone of economic cooperation between the two allied states,” Irina Kaplevskaya summed up results of the conference.

All the reached agreements and sketched-out plans regarding joint work were officially recorded in the minutes of the conference. The minutes will serve as the basis for further concrete steps on the part of departments and services of Belarusian Railways and Moscow Railway.

The event concluded with a ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame in memory of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
