MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ Development Bank has presented opportunities for trade growth to delegations from Egypt and Sudan, BelTA learned from the bank.
Integration, fierce competition for markets, and the establishment of sustainable financial ties are distinctive features of foreign economic activity of many countries. Increasingly, states focused on long-term growth and development are seeking not just business partners, but reliable allies capable of stable and mutually beneficial cooperation for years to come.
Belarus is consistently strengthening its position on the global stage, and particularly on the African continent. The country’s leadership defines the vector of engagement with foreign partners for state bodies and real economy organizations, while the Development Bank, in turn, establishes the financial infrastructure and provides support for export projects.
During the first week of May, the bank’s international business efforts were focused on Egypt and Sudan. Delegations from these countries visited the financial institution for in-depth discussions on cooperation, aiming to move to practical implementation as soon as possible.
The visit of the Egyptian partners was a logical continuation of the intensive agenda set a day earlier during the Belarusian government meeting. As noted during the talks, the relations between Belarus and Egypt are truly friendly and strategic in nature. The history of cooperation, solidified by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visits to Cairo and the historic visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Minsk, has provided a powerful momentum that both parties intend to convert into concrete economic results.
First Deputy Chairman of the Development Bank Board Vladimir Drushchits emphasized that for Belarus, Egypt is not just a key regional partner, but a strategic gateway for Belarusian industry to the markets of Africa and the Middle East. “We highly appreciate your readiness to pave the way for cooperation with Belarus. The government has assigned the bank’s team a special role in implementing projects of national and international importance, which essentially obliges us to be the best in our field.
We are eager to become a reliable financial link for significantly strengthening trade and economic ties of our countries in various areas: from the supply of industrial goods and food products to the establishment of Belarusian manufacturing facilities in Egypt,” Vladimir Drushchits said.
Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh confirmed Egypt’s interest in increasing mutual trade and industrial cooperation, focusing on technology transfer, localization of production competencies and the expansion of joint projects to serve regional markets. The parties discussed joint investment projects as well as the financing of mutual trade. The Development Bank is ready to fully use its potential to finance the export of Belarusian products, works and services to the Egyptian market.
The visit of the Sudanese delegation is further confirmation that even geographical distance is not an obstacle for countries united by the desire to develop economic cooperation. The large foreign delegation was welcomed by Executive Director Dmitry Merkul, who expressed strong interest in increasing mutually beneficial economic cooperation. “The development of Belarusian-Sudanese relations is in the focus of our country’s leadership. Despite the considerable geographical distance that separates us, Belarus and Sudan are very close in their desire to implement joint effective and mutually beneficial projects to increase the well-being of the peoples of the two countries,” he said.
Minister of Energy and Petroleum Elmutasim Ibrahim Ahmed Ali, who headed his country’s delegation, noted that their visit to the Development Bank was no accident. “We know that the Development Bank is a key institution for financial support of domestic producers and has extensive experience in implementing various foreign trade projects. Therefore, the goal of our meeting is to discuss the most effective cooperation options in highly specific terms and to move toward the practical implementation of Belarusian product deliveries to Sudan,” the minister said.
A legal framework has also been created for the practical implementation of future projects. During the fifth meeting of the joint Belarusian-Sudanese cooperation commission, a general agreement was signed between the governments of Belarus and Sudan on the provision of export credits. The document provides for the possibility of the Development Bank financing the supply of Belarusian goods, works, and services to Sudan
Belarusian achievements and expertise in agriculture, mechanical engineering, energy, and the food industry are in high demand across the African market. The country is ready to expand its economic presence in this region, proving to the international community that Belarus is a reliable partner, open to dialogue and prepared for long-term cooperation.
