Belarus sows 77% of spring crop areas

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) - Belarus has sown 77% of its spring crops, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“According to operational data as of 8 May 2026, spring crops have been sown across 1,768,000 hectares, which accounts for 77% of the total sowing area of 2,294,000 hectares,” the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast – 347,000 hectares (84% of planned areas); Grodno Oblast – 270,000 hectares (81%); Minsk Oblast – 400,000 hectares (80%); Vitebsk Oblast – 248,000 hectares (77%); Mogilev Oblast – 239,000 hectares (73%); Gomel Oblast – 264,000 hectares (66%).

Corn has been sown in all regions of the country on a total area of 814,000 hectares, accounting for 63% of the plan of 1.283 million hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for the 2026 spring sowing have been stockpiled in the amount of 818,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 98% of the plan. Organic fertilizers for spring sowing have been applied in the amount of 43 million tonnes, which is 80% of the amount transported to the fields.

Potatoes have been planted on an area of more than 14,000 hectares, which is 63% of the plan of 22,000 hectares. By region, the percentage of planted area is: Brest Oblast - 68%, Mogilev Oblast - 68%, Grodno Oblast - 78%, Gomel Oblast - 66%, Minsk Oblast - 59%, Vitebsk Oblast - 39%.

Vegetable crops (cabbage, beets, carrots, etc.) have been sown on more than 5,000 hectares, which is 65% of the plan of 8,000 hectares.
