MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 154 Iryna Shymanovich has made a winning start at the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal, with a prize fund of $115,000, BelTA has learned.
Today, in the round of 32, the Belarusian defeated France’s world number 179 Carole Monnet in a three-set match, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes. In the match for a spot in the quarterfinals, Iryna Shymanovich’s opponent will be either Dutch World No.111 Suzan Lamens or Spain’s Aliona Bolsova (World No.229). Tomorrow, in their opening doubles match, Iryna Shymanovich and Romania’s Irina Bara will face the tandem of Cho I-hsuan / Cho Yi-tsen from Chinese Taipei.
The tournament in Oeiras will be over on 15 February.
