MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – On 16 March, the outdoor courts of Miami will host the first qualifying matches of the WTA-1000 tournament, which boasts a prize pool of $9.1 million, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich (world No. 116) will face Ayla Aksu of Türkiye (world No. 269) in the first round. The reigning Miami Open champion and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will begin her campaign in the second round. Her opponent will be the winner of the match between the U.S. Ann Li (No. 41) and one of the qualifiers. On 15 March, Sabalenka won the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells for the first time, defeating Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the final.

The main draw will be held from 17 to 29 March. In 2025, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula of the USA in the final, 7-5, 6-2. Another Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka has won this tournament three times (2009, 2011, 2016).
