Following her parents’ footsteps: Xenia Bjørndalen secures spot in Snow Sniper final in Minsk

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Xenia Bjørndalen, the daughter of Darya Domracheva and Ole Einar Bjørndalen, has become a medalist at the Minsk city stage of the Snow Sniper national biathlon competition held under the auspices of the Presidential Sports Club, BelTA has learned.

Held on the Vesnyanka ski track, the Minsk city qualifiers for the national tournament feature competition across three age categories. In the girls’ sprint for the youngest category (born in 2015-2016), Xenia Bjørndalen delivered a perfect shooting round to secure a podium finish in third, behind gold medalist Olesya Lastovskaya and silver medalist Viktoriya Sharupich. Thus, Xenia has qualified for the final stage of the Snow Sniper event, which will be held in Raubichi on 13-15 February.

The nine-year-old athlete is the daughter of biathlon legends Darya Domracheva and Ole Einar Bjørndalen. Darya Domracheva is a four-time Olympic champion, two-time world champion, and the winner of the World Cup Big Crystal Globe for the 2014-15 season. Ole Einar Bjørndalen has won 8 gold medals at the Olympic Games and 20 world championship golds, and has also claimed the overall World Cup title six times.
