Belarus’ Lazouski wins Mass Start at Commonwealth Cup second leg

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) - Dzmitry Lazouski of Belarus secured victory in the Men’s Mass Start at the second leg of the Commonwealth Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, BelTA has learned.

The race began with the top thirty athletes from the tournament’s overall standings. After the third shooting stage, a quartet of leaders had formed, which included Belarusians Anton Smolski and Dzmitry Lazouski. In the final shooting bout, Smolski made two errors, while Lazouski was off-target only once, exiting the penalty loop in second place. In the final meters of the course, Dzmitry proved to be the fastest, crossing the finish line first to edge out Russia’s Aleksandr Kornev by two seconds.

The top three was completed by Alexander Povarnitsyn. Smolski, the bronze medalist from the sprint, ultimately finished ninth. As for the other Belarusian results, Mikita Labastau placed 21st, Maksim Varabei was 23rd, Aleksandr Golyak came in 26th, and Pavel Belko finished 29th.

Earlier on 5 December, Belarus’ Dzinara Smolskaya finished sixth in the Women's Mass Start. The program of the second biathlon Commonwealth Cup leg in Khanty-Mansiysk will conclude with the mixed relay, scheduled for 6 December.
