Volfovich: Belarus is willing to invite foreign observers to military exercises

BORISOV DISTRICT, 19 February (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to invite foreign observers and military attaches to its joint exercises, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich said as he visited the Borisov cadet school in Minsk Oblast on 19 February, BelTA learned.

“We have announced that we are holding a combat readiness exercise, a stage of intensive combat training in all the Armed Forces. Along with it we are conducting various readiness check activities. On the territory of Borisov District, we have mobilized several formations of the Armed Forces. This is a scheduled event. The goal is to prepare a trained reserve and to test the hardware in storage. This is the system of ongoing training in the Armed Forces. Despite this, we are continuously accused of threatening someone. This is absolutely not true,” Aleksandr Volfovich noted. The state secretary noted that they have announced about 100 exercises in Poland and the Baltic states in 2025. Compared to this, the number of planned exercises in Belarus is absolutely minuscule.

He noted that reserve servicemen who are called up for training camps are understanding of these events. “They understand perfectly well that it is important to hone skills in order to stand up to defend their Fatherland if needed. Wars are not won by armies, but by people. Therefore, the defense of our homeland is a nationwide matter, both under the Constitution and the National Security Concept. We prepare our people on a planned basis to defend, if necessary, the country’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, its national interests,” he emphasized.

The military exercises near Belarus borders are multinational; they bring together armed forces of the NATO member states. "We are accused of holding joint exercises with Russia this year. But these exercises will involve only two countries. We hold such exercises to prepare the regional group of forces of the Belarus-Russia Union State on a regular basis: once every two years. There is nothing new or extraordinary about this. These exercises do not pose a threat to our neighbors," he stressed.
Aleksandr Volfovich noted that Belarus is ready to invite international observers and military attaches to its joint exercises. "At the same time, our 'friendly' neighbors, ignoring international documents that regulate the course of such events, have stopped inviting Belarus and Russia to their joint exercises. If you claim that your exercises are peaceful and defensive, please show it to us. After all, this is a common practice, and it has never caused any problems to anyone. The West distanced itself from Belarus, pursuing an aggressive policy of militarism and accusing us of this militarism. We don't hide anything. We hold training camps aimed at maintaining combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Belarus on a regular basis," he added.
