MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Pavel Durov's brother Nikolai Durov is wanted by French authorities, Politico reports with reference to a French administrative document.
As Politico noted, Nikolai Durov's current location is unclear. Warrants for Pavel and his brother Nikolai were issued on 25 March 2024 over charges including complicity in possessing, distributing, offering or making available pornographic images of minors, as part of an organized group.
The document states that the arrest warrants were issued after the platform had not responded to an earlier judicial request to identify a Telegram user. The document also cites "Telegram's almost non-existent cooperation" with both French and European authorities in other cases.
In turn, the Paris prosecutor's office said that “the various offenses committed via Telegram, and which warranted the opening of an investigation by the cybercrime unit of the Paris public prosecutor's office, include child pornography offenses (among others).”
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested at Paris airport on 24 August. French prosecutors outlined 12 alleged violations as part of an ongoing investigation. According to media reports, the businessman could face up to 20 years in prison.
