Over 1,500 foreigners trained by Belarus' Military Academy since 1995

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Over 1,500 foreigners have been trained by the Military Academy of Belarus since the institution was founded, BelTA learned from Deputy Chief for Education of the Military Academy Vladimir Susha on 14 March.

Hundreds of foreign specialists are being trained in the academy now. “Since the Military Academy was established in 1995, we've trained over 1,500 people. The main countries are Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and China,” Vladimir Susha said.

“The geography is vast. The specialists, who were trained in countries of the socialist bloc in their time, still remember the training system although they are in positions of power. This is why they send their subordinates,” he added.

Chief of the Military Education Office of the Belarusian Defense Ministry Igor Slutsky noted that within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Belarusian military specialists are trained only in Russia. He explained why Belarusian specialists are not sent to other CSTO countries for training. “We are interested in the specializations, teaching which in Belarus is economically unprofitable or inadvisable. We are talking about minimal contract figures. About 400 people get trained every year,” Igor Slutsky said.

Belarusian specialists are trained in Russian military education institutions in line with the relevant agreement between the Belarusian and Russian defense ministries.
