
MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – The international symposium of writers "The Writer and Time" will be held as part of the 32nd Minsk International Book Fair on 12 March, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Writers Aleksandr Karlyukevich told the media, BelTA has learned.
The international symposium "The Writer and Time" will traditionally bring together writers, creative intellectuals, printing and publishing houses representing the countries that take part in the fair. This year, the forum will take place on 12 March, and the topic for discussion will be "Culture and information as development trends in humanitarian space.”
"This project facilitates literary, creative, book-publishing and humanitarian communication," Aleksandr Karlyukevich said, stressing that the first symposium was held by the Information Ministry and the Belarusian Union of Writers in 2015. Over the years, it has drawn writers from about 30 countries.
"This year, we will host our Russian colleagues. The Russian delegation will include the leadership of the Union of Writers of Russia, including Vladimir Medinsky, and representatives of the literary community of various regions of the Russian Federation - Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Kalmykia, the Republic of Dagestan," Aleksandr Karlyukevich mentioned. According to him, the symposium will be attended by publicists, translators, poets and novelists who have maintained a long-standing cooperation with Belarusian writers. An array of books and various anthologies have been published in recent years.
For instance, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Bashkortostan Aigiz Baimukhametov facilitated the publication of an anthology of modern Belarusian literature in Bashkortostan last year, being one of the compilers and initiators of the project. "In the run-up to the book exhibition and the symposium we, in turn, have published an anthology of modern poetry of Bashkortostan which was translated by modern Belarusian poets from different regions of our country on the initiative of the Belarusian Union of Writers with the support of the Information Ministry," Aleksandr Karlyukevich said.
During the symposium, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus will host a roundtable to discuss conceptual issues, priority areas and forms of humanitarian cooperation on 13 March.
