Lutskina pardoned by president: ‘I will finally hug my son’

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – I will finally be able to hug my son, Ksenia Lutskina, who was pardoned by the president the day before, said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA learned.

"In the petition for pardon, I asked to give me a second chance and the opportunity to start a new life. I am very happy that the president heard my request and that I was included in the list of those pardoned," she said. “A petition for pardon is probably the most difficult thing I have written in my life. Because you need to understand it, feel it and live through it. It took a lot of emotions. Do you want to cry at some point? Yes. Without this, you will not write it [the petition]. You understand that what you did has ruined not only your life. Or, first of all, not your life. Therefore, it was begged from God and from the head of state."

The woman was convicted for a serious offence - she was supposed to be released only in December 2027. "Only a strong person can accept and forgive. I committed a crime against the state. I have been serving the punishment for this crime for the fourth year," she said. “Today is a great day, the second birthday I would say. I will be able to hug my son finally."

Ksenia Lutskina noted that she does not know what awaits her next. But she knows exactly what she will not do.

She also spoke about the events in August 2020 that landed her behind bars. "On 17 August 2020, the company's employees gathered for the so-called strike, and I met Maria Kolesnikova, I approached her and gave her my contact info. So I joined, became a member of the ‘coordination council’," she said.
“They needed a person who was trusted, a ‘new face’. So I joined the conspiracy to seize power. The ‘coordination council’ was a chat in Telegram. It works as the PR department of a private company."

Ksenia Lutskina noted that she has a feeling that she was used. "Before the arrest, I was already well aware of some financial interests. There was this rosy picture for outsiders. There were no old faces from the old opposition. We saw representatives of the new wave, which were supposed to unite. This is a wonderful TV show that gets people carried away," the pardoned woman said. “It was the peak of their career. I already understood before the arrest that we were just fools."

She also said that before the 2020 events, she had a wonderful job that she loved. "I always had the support of the Belteleradiocompany management. There’s absolutely nothing to complain about," Ksenia Lutskina emphasized. "I had my projects that were loved by the audiences as it seemed to me,”
At that moment, there were a lot of emotions, Ksenia Lutskina recalled, and a lot of chaos. "In your mind, you understand that you shouldn't do this, but then you just go with the flow and get carried away by a wave," she said.

Ksenia Lutskina wrote a letter to the chairman of Belteleradiocompany. "I asked for forgiveness for the moral damage that I brought to the company," the pardoned woman noted.

She also said that she had gone through a process of rethinking and repentance for what she did. "A ‘kindergarten’ ended and adulthood came very abruptly," she concluded.

On 16 August, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenka pardoned 30 people convicted of protest-related crimes. Among them are 14 women and 16 men, some of them are sick. There are people of retirement age.
