MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Movies made by students from Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan will be presented during a contest of national movie schools as part of the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad, BelTA learned from the contest’s program director Yelena Radevich.
Yelena Radevich said: “Our contest is rather young. It is the second year it has been organized. Entries are submitted by students enrolled in higher education institutions specializing in cinematography at the time of creation and completion of the work. Films may be created in 2024-2025. More than 200 works from over 20 countries have been submitted. Russians have become the most active participants. They have many well-known higher education institutions. Viewers will also see works from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, films from Egypt and China will not be covered by the contest.”
“We constantly reproach young people for being superficial, accustomed to rapid changes of images and bright visuals. In fact, this is not entirely true. We will show films with ideas of humanism, deep philosophical views, and themes of self-discovery and the meaning of life. We have films that can compete with major feature films in terms of drama,” she added.
In her words, students also have their own festivals, this is why at Listapad viewers will see films that have already won prestigious awards.
“The contest will take place at the Moskva movie theater. We have tried to put together a program that is easy for viewers to understand. I especially invite students of higher education institutions. They will have an opportunity to see the work of their peers and find out what life is like for young people like themselves. We will also have a very welcoming panel of judges, which will include Russian-speaking filmmakers from Cuba and Egypt,” Yelena Radevich summed it up.
This year’s festival will run from 31 October to 7 November under the slogan “Life-changing story”. The opening ceremony will take place at the Palace of the Republic and the closing ceremony will be held at the Moskva movie theater.
