Help, support for young talents identified as Belarusian government's priority

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Providing help and support to young talented people is one of the state priorities. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko made the statement during the ceremony held on 1 June to award laureates and scholarship recipients of the president's special foundations for the social support of talented students and for the support of talented youth, BelTA has learned.

The best school students and university students, who had won international academic excellence competitions, art contests, and festivals, gathered in the small chamber of the Palace of the Republic. Their pedagogues and creative workers, who had secured significant professional accomplishments thanks to the foundation's support, sat next to them.

Igor Petrishenko said: “I am genuinely glad to meet with outstanding representatives of the young generation – talented and gifted, hardworking and motivated ones. You are a hope of Belarus. Your accomplishments multiply the spiritual wealth of our country. Helping young talents grow and mature is one of the key state priorities. It is the main task of the special foundations designed to support talented and gifted youth. They have accumulated huge experience of comprehensive support for young talents starting at a young age and ending with the beginning of their adult lives.”

The deputy prime minister noted that outstanding accomplishments of young Belarusians represent the result of hard work in combination with deeply rooted knowledge and acumen able to reach beyond the known and sometimes beyond the possible.

“Today I have the honor of congratulating you and presenting well-deserved awards on behalf of the special foundations of the president of the Republic of Belarus. Thanks to your talent and mastery, which stem from colossal work, Belarus is worthily represented at the international level. Your accomplishments at prestigious contests last year give us a reason to be proud of the young generation of talented Belarusians,” he stressed.

Various databases containing information about talented youngsters have records about 727 citizens and 259 creative teams. Over the course of 26 years the president's special foundation for the social support of gifted students decided in favor of encouraging 41,791 students, 4,066 pedagogical and scientific workers, who made a special contribution to the development of capabilities of talented young people.

Culture Minister Anatoly Markevich, Education Minister Andrei Ivanets, the heads of the president's special foundations for the social support of talented students and for the support of talented youth Oleg Rummo and Yekaterina Dulova also took part in the award ceremony.
