MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia are working out four Union State programs in the field of nuclear and radiation security, representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) told BelTA.
According to Gosatomnadzor, the agency together with Russian colleagues is developing four programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The first one focuses on overcoming negative consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. The second one envisages setting up a manufacturing complex and organizing a performance review of detecting equipment with specified parameters. The third one deals with safety precautions in the course of handling radioactive waste. The fourth program provides for improving approaches to ensuring the preparedness of the relevant Belarusian and Russian agencies to prevent and alleviate consequences of accidents and emergencies involving radiation. The realization of these programs is supposed to start in 2025.
A seminar took place in Polotsk this week to discuss the development and realization of programs and projects of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Gosatomnadzor Head Olga Lugovskaya presented a report on the role of programs on joint efforts in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
Organized by the State Committee on Science and Technology and the state institution Belarusian Institute for System Analysis and Information Support of the Scientific and Technical Sphere (BelISA), the seminar took place at premises of Euphrosyne Polotskaya State University of Polotsk.
