Exhibition about Jewish authors of Belarus on display in Zaslavl

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - The exhibition “Return to Zaslavl. Jewish Words, the Constellation of Dear Little Lights” dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was opened at the Zaslavl Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, Kseniya Semashko, the deputy director for research, head of the museum's scientific and exposition department, told BelTA.

“The first part of the exhibition 'Jewish Words, the Constellation of Dear Little Lights' presents the history of Belarusian-Soviet Jewish writers of the 1920s-1930s. The exposition features 22 panels displaying biographies of the main protagonists, who wrote about the lives of Jews in both large cities and small towns,” Kseniya Semashko said.

According to her, the exhibition is complemented by installations such as The Vilna Table, The Zelmenyaners and Synagogue. The narrative about the friendship and life of Jews and Belarusians is further enriched by books provided by the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities and the Museum of Jewish History and Culture in Belarus under the union. These include original editions with authors' autographs.

The second part of the project is an artistic installation by the Bastalia arts workshop. It conveys themes important to the Jewish people through imagery, a map of Yiddish Vilna, symbols, and works dedicated to Moyshe Kulbak and other Jewish writers of Belarus.

"Every visitor to the exhibition can try their hand at being a reader and reciter. To do this, one needs to read a poem by one of the authors displayed at our exhibition and share it on their social media. This way, you can join our campaign,” Kseniya Semashko added.
The exhibition will run until 8 February.
