Brest establishes sister city ties with Russia’s Vladivostok, Sertolovo

BREST, 26 July (BelTA) - Russia's Vladivostok and Sertolovo have become sister cities of Brest. The twinning agreements were signed on 26 July, BelTA learned.

Brest is celebrating its 1,006th anniversary. Numerous partners have arrived to congratulate the city on this occasion. This serves as an opportunity to review completed projects and outline plans for the future."We are always glad to welcome guests and partners. I want everyone to see us as a reliable partner, one that adheres to simple principles: never let down and always deliver on promises. This is the philosophy we have upheld for many years," said Sergei Lobodinsky, Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee.

Among the delegations were representatives from Russia’s Vladivostok, with which Brest signed a sister-city agreement today. The parties intend to exchange views and expertise on matters of mutual interest. The twin cities will expand and strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, transportation, tourism, culture, education, sports, youth policy, and other areas. They also plan to organize delegation exchanges and hold joint events.

"We need to develop a plan - not a 10-15 year one (though we need such document too), but a simple, clear roadmap for the next one and three years. We can meet again in a year. We will choose a venue to summarize the work we will have accomplished together. I am confident our humanitarian cooperation will excel, but we should also work jointly on strengthening our cities’ economies. We have come here with open hearts. I am absolutely certain we will benefit each other, despite the 11,000 kilometers between our cities," Mayor of Vladivostok Konstantin Shestakov said.

Brest also signed an agreement on establishing friendly relations with Sertolovo. The cities aim to develop mutual potential based on principles of trust, open dialogue, partnership, and mutually benefits. The agreement emphasizes exchanging experience and implementing joint projects. Key areas of cooperation include: scientific, technological, educational, cultural, humanitarian, and economic fields; organizing joint competitions, tournaments, training camps, and friendly matches; facilitating student and academic exchanges; collaborating on educational and scientific projects; strengthening cultural ties and tourism contacts. The agreement reflects both cities’ commitment to deepening practical cooperation across multiple sectors.

Brest and Sertolovo have maintained relations since 2008 when the cities’ veteran organizations signed an agreement. "This marked the start of a cherished tradition that has continued uninterrupted for 16 years. Every June, we visit here for events commemorating the start of the Great Patriotic War, with our children also participating," noted Sergei Kolomytsev, Head of the Sertolovo Municipality Administration. "Today’s agreement is the natural outcome. I have no doubt our cooperation will grow further. The potential is immense."
