J:Mors performs in UN to celebrate 30 years of Convention on Rights of Child

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The popular Belarusian rock band J:Mors gave a concert at the Palace of Nations, the headquarters of the UN office in Geneva (Switzerland) on 19 November. The event was organized by Belarusian diplomats in partnership with the Association of Belarusians in Switzerland and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), BelTA learned from the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Rock4Children campaign has become a symbolic contribution of Belarus to the global campaign dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Preceding the performance, Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich noted that caring for children and youth, creating conditions for their maximum self-realization are the most important priority of the state policy of the country.

Yuri Ambrazevich emphasized that the Belarusian concert was addressed to the participants of the international events devoted to childhood and youth topics running in Geneva these days and aws intended to remind that children and adolescents do not need formal phrases from legal documents but family comfort, the love of parents, understanding of society and the specific care of the state. According to him, the concert was also addressed to all those who specifically and directly contribute to making these simple concepts a reality for every child.

In this context Ambassador Yuri Ambrazevich drew attention to the symbolic fact that the leader of the group J:Mors Vladimir Pugach is the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Belarus. The members of the group have been engaged in projects to support troubled teenagers for many years.

Director General of the United Nations Office Tatiana Valovaya and UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Afshan Khan addressed the public before the concert to express support to Belarus' national efforts to engage with children, adolescents and youth.
