MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - The working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the United Mexican States of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus held an online meeting with the MPs of the Congress of the United Mexican States on 8 January, BelTA has learned.
The parties discussed the establishment of a friendship group with the Parliament of Belarus in the Congress of the United Mexican States and ways of intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting also touched upon the upcoming presidential election in Belarus and the position of the Mexican MPs regarding non-interference in the electoral process. The parties also exchanged views on the current geopolitical transformation in world politics.
"We had a meeting with our colleagues from the Congress of the United Mexican States to discuss the possibility of establishing a friendship group," member of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich said. "We know that the United Mexican States held the presidential and paramilitary elections last year. Now the Parliament is in the process of establishing its working bodies. This is why it is important for us to have friends in the new Parliament too. Moreover, there are quite a lot of enthusiastic, well-known MPs in Mexico who traditionally support Belarus and want to be our friends. Today we have discussed with them not only organizational issues, but also the agenda of inter-parliamentary cooperation, joint work in the humanitarian and economic areas.”
According to Sergei Klishevich, the Mexican business is actively looking for investment opportunities in Belarus. "We have quite successful, significant, large-scale projects in this direction. Certainly, we as parliamentarians support these initiatives, promote our joint agenda of friendship, especially now as Mexico is striving to build a state of social justice," he added. "Belarus is an example of a socially oriented state for Mexico. This is what the Mexican MPs talk about. This is a good background for building our inter-parliamentary cooperation and launching certain projects and initiatives."
