MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – The readiness of the Armed Forces and their ability to respond to any aggressive movement toward Belarus’ borders is the only guarantee of peace and security for the state, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to summarize the results of the comprehensive inspection of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus on 1 April, BelTA has learned.
“The readiness of the Armed Forces to defend against an enemy and the ability to react instantly to any aggressive movement toward our borders is the only guarantee of peace and security for the state,” the president said.
“I very often and repeatedly tell Generals [Defense Minister Viktor] Khrenin and [Chairman of the State Security Committee Ivan] Tertel: guys, what I need most from you is that you warn us of a likely or actual attack on Belarus. If we know nothing about it, it will mean defeat for us. This, too, comes from the experience of the [Russian] special military operation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
At the same time, as the head of state noted, the defense minister and the chief of the General Staff regularly report that they do not see any concentration of enemy troops along Belarus’ borders. In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that no one will gather troops before an offensive the way it was done during the Great Patriotic War, since the nature of warfare has changed significantly. The experience of the special military operation also points to this.
“Who in Poland, Lithuania or NATO, if they suddenly chose to fight us, would not identify a location, for example, near Kobrin, as the assembly and concentration point for their forces? They will mark a point on the map and move in. With battalion tactical groups, with small formations, just as we see in Ukraine. And if needed, they will concentrate in the direction of the main strike,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Is that impossible? But Viktor Gennadyevich [Khrenin] is waiting for them to gather by the thousands somewhere near Warsaw and then march toward us in columns. It could happen, but I would not accept such a report from the General Staff before the start of an operation. The situation has changed. They are not fools. They know what they want from us, and they know what we will pay attention to.”
