TIANJIN, 1 September (BelTA) - Amid current global turbulence, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) faces a pressing task of ensuring security, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the SCO summit in Tianjin, BelTA has learned.
“In the context of challenging international turbulence, all SCO member states are confronted with the urgent need to ensure their own security. We are prepared to share our experience in high-quality development and cooperation for the sake of a closer and unified future for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese leader called on the SCO member states to defend justice and impartiality, promote a correct understanding of the World War II history, and oppose the mentality of the Cold War, bloc confrontations, and harassment. He emphasized the need to protect the system of international relations with the United Nations at its core.
Xi Jinping asserted that in the face of global upheaval and change, it is particularly important for the SCO countries to demonstrate commitment to the “Shanghai spirit” and to enhance the efficiency of the organization. He underscored the necessity of striving for unity while respecting the differences among member states. Additionally, he highlighted the principles of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
“It is essential to fully utilize the advantages of the complementary economies of member states, simplify trade and investment procedures, and strengthen cooperation in energy, infrastructure, green industries, digital economy, technological innovation, and artificial intelligence, moving towards modernization through mutual support for our common future,” Xi Jinping stated.
The Chinese leader also stressed the importance of maintaining openness and inclusivity. “The Eurasian continent has activated connections between the East and West, promoting human progress. SCO member states should come together through cultural and humanitarian exchanges, support each other, and jointly build a flourishing garden of civilization in the spirit of shared prosperity, universal beauty, and harmonious coexistence,” he said. Xi Jinping also proposed the establishment of the SCO Development Bank to enhance economic cooperation among member states.
The Chinese president assured that China links its own development with that of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He emphasized that China has always focused on practicality in promoting the development of the SCO.
“Our common goal unites us, erasing all barriers and distances. Let us remain true to our original mission, actively assume responsibility, and more pragmatically and confidently advance the SCO towards sustainable and stable development, steadfastly moving toward a bright future for the Community of Shared Future for Humanity,” Xi Jinping concluded.
