Senator calls for preserving peace in Belarus

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – Belarus must remain peaceful and calm, speaker of the upper chamber of parliament Natalya Kochanova said at the opening of the fourth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation on 2 October, BelTA has learned.

“In the inter-session period, the key event was the presidential election in the country. The election campaign was held in difficult conditions. We witnessed unconcealed external pressure on our country and the aggravation of an unhealthy public situation by internal destructive forces. People made their choice in support of the incumbent President, in favor of stability, peace, tranquility, and the policy pursued in the country,” Natalya Kochanova said.

An unprecedented information attack on Belarus by Western states continues. “Lies and misleading information about the country is being spread. Fake news and speculations are aimed at undermining the consent in the society, sowing distrust in the authorities and forming a protest movement. We, the members of the Council of the Republic, strongly condemn the gross interference of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and other foreign countries in the internal affairs of Belarus. We have adopted statements stressing that the Belarusian people will independently decide the fate of their country and will continue working on the evolutionary development of the economy, political system, social and humanitarian sectors,” the speaker said.

Natalya Kochanova emphasized that the Belarusian people are able to find answers to all the questions without external pressure. “Especially in the year of the 75th anniversary of Victory, we should clearly understand that peace and tranquility, which our country has always been proud of, should be preserved. The authorities will ensure order and security, protect the people and their right to a peaceful and decent life,” she concluded.
