MFA comments on situation with Polish carriers unable to leave Belarus

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - Guided solely by humanitarian considerations, the Republic of Belarus has granted a 10-day deferral for 1,453 Polish freight vehicles to exit the country unimpeded, spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Varankov told the media, BelTA has learned.

“They found themselves trapped in the wake of Warsaw’s ill-considered decision to close the border. This is not merely a gesture of goodwill but an extraordinary measure, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to good neighborly relations and a responsible approach to international affairs,” Ruslan Varankov said.
"While the Polish authorities have abandoned their entrepreneurs, we are extending a helping hand to them,” Ruslan Varankov said. “We have deliberately refrained from resorting to the strict enforcement of customs legislation, even though it promised significant financial gains and corresponding losses for Polish carriers. Instead of sanctions, we offer an opportunity. Instead of pressure, we propose dialogue."

“By creating transparent and secure conditions for cross-border logistics, Belarus serves as a stabilizing factor in the region. Meanwhile, Poland’s decisions continue to sow chaos, undermine market stability, and harm ordinary citizens and businesses," the spokesperson emphasized.

"The contrast has become fundamental: on one side we see common sense and humanity; on the other—political ambitions and disregard for one’s own citizens,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. “We expect Poland to demonstrate a willingness to adopt reasonable and measured decisions that will contribute to the restoration of normal cross-border interaction. After the specified period expires, Belarus reserves the right to apply all legally provided measures in full.”
