Governor: Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast, Belarus maintain active interregional cooperation

MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – Chelyabinsk Oblast and Belarus maintain active interregional cooperation, Governor of Russia's Chelyabinsk Oblast Aleksei Teksler said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 11 August, BelTA learned.

Aleksei Teksler thanked Aleksandr Lukashenko for the opportunity of a personal meeting and the warm welcome extended to the delegation. The governor noted that he had met with the Belarusian leader in 2022, and that meeting gave a strong impetus to cooperation between Belarus and Chelyabinsk Oblast.

"Today, we have established direct dialogue both between government bodies and businesses," Aleksei Teksler emphasized. "I thank you and your colleagues for creating unprecedented conditions and a high level of cooperation across all areas. Following your instructions in 2023, the prime minister of the Republic of Belarus visited Chelyabinsk Oblast along with members of the government and regional governors. We remain in constant contact.”
The governor noted that active cooperation is underway through established working groups, including at the interregional level. "Our valued partner is Gomel Oblast," he added. "Thank you for formally pairing us with this Belarusian region. In May, we hosted a large delegation in our region. Just this Saturday and Sunday, my team and I visited Gomel Oblast, a wonderful land with remarkable people.”

According to Aleksei Teksler, Gomel Oblast and Chelyabinsk Oblast have identified cooperation across many promising areas, including entirely new ones. The business delegation from the Russian region held 130 meetings with businesses in Gomel Oblast alone. In this regard, the governor of Chelyabinsk Oblast also expressed gratitude to Ivan Krupko, Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, for his efforts in advancing cooperation across all sectors.

Trade between Belarus and Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast has grown steadily in recent years, rising from $302.3 million in 2020 to $539.8 million in 2024. From January to June this year, bilateral trade between Belarus and Chelyabinsk Oblast reached $230.8 million.

Belarus’ major exports include tires, alloyed and non-alloyed steels, tractor and auto parts, lifting and loading machinery, cheese, cottage cheese and beef. Chelyabinsk Oblast supplied Belarus with steel profiles and rolled products, stone and mineral-based goods, pipeline fittings, ferroalloys and other industrial goods.
