MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Vietnam are interested in continuing close dialogue and strengthening parliamentary ties, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man, BelTA has learned.
The joint declaration to establish a strategic partnership, signed in Minsk in May 2025, has taken bilateral relations to a brand new level.
Igor Sergeyenko emphasized that a key priority for parliamentarians of both countries is to implement agreements reached at the highest level. “The regularity of meetings between speakers reflects the mutual interest of both sides in deepening cooperation. This was confirmed by our meeting during the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly session in Laos in October 2024 and your meeting with my deputy in Ho Chi Minh in April 2025,” he noted.
Igor Sergeyenko invited Tran Thanh Man to visit Belarus for meetings with the leadership of the country and parliament and to discuss key issues in bilateral relations.
“We hope that during the visit, a new cooperation agreement between the parliaments of Belarus and Vietnam will be signed, giving our ties a more structured foundation and enriching them with new content. In order to ensure practical implementation, we propose considering the development of a cooperation program or roadmap for 2026-2028. It is also important to continue engagement through parliamentary friendship groups, which can make a meaningful contribution to interparliamentary cooperation. We look forward to concrete joint activities, including the exchange of visits. We are ready to host a meeting of the Vietnam-Belarus friendship group in Minsk this autumn,” the chairman said.
The speaker emphasized that trade and investment cooperation is of particular importance for the social and economic development and well-being of citizens in both countries. At the same time, the existing potential is not being fully realized. “We must take advantage of the opportunities offered by the EAEU-Vietnam free trade agreement, which marks its tenth anniversary this year. There are several issues that, once resolved, will help unlock the full potential in this area,” he stressed. “We are open to cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including information and communication technologies, smart city initiatives, electric and unmanned transport. Parliamentarians can engage more actively with the executive branch, proposing new ideas and projects to advance mutual interests in ASEAN and Eurasian Economic Union markets.”
The greatest potential lies in industrial cooperation, Igor Sergeyenko emphasized. Positive experience is already in place. “We have the technologies and expertise. We are ready to share our knowledge and experience with our friends,” he noted.
The speaker stated that a key priority for both sides, including their parliaments, is the continued development of the legal and contractual framework. “I hope for the continuation of close dialogue and the strengthening of parliamentary ties. Our relationship of trust enables us to tackle even the most ambitious tasks. This will undoubtedly contribute to the sustainable social and economic development of Belarus and Vietnam and to the prosperity of our nations,” he added.
