MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, held a meeting with Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Qatar in Belarus Hamoud Saleh Al-Saadi, at the initiative of the Qatari side on 16 March, BelTA has learned.
The parties exchanged views on issues of the regional and bilateral agenda. Sergei Aleinik expressed concern over the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, which has affected Qatar and other friendly countries of the Persian Gulf. The MP noted with regret the consequences that have led to destruction and casualties among the population of the region’s countries, including Qatar, and expressed words of support.
The chairman of the Standing Commission emphasized the importance of a swift political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict, which is negatively impacting the political and economic situation in the region and the world in general.
Sergei Aleinik thanked the Qatari Chargé d'Affaires in Belarus for Qatar’s assistance in the evacuation of nearly 200 Belarusian tourists from Doha.
The chairman of the Standing Commission reaffirmed that Belarus views Qatar as an important partner in the Persian Gulf region.
“Active development of political and parliamentary dialogue, as well as cooperation in trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian sectors, contribute to the sustainable development of our countries,” the MP said.
