Belarusian castles were badly damaged during the wars. Fortunately, many of them have been restored and we can admire them again. BelTA's archive photos show the process of Lida Castle's restoration.
31 December 1957. Castle ruins. Lida Castle is a unique example of defense architecture of the 14th -15th centuries. It was built in the 1330s and was part of the line of defense Novogrudok - Krevo - Medininkai - Troki against the crusaders. It was built on a sand hill surrounded by the marshy banks of the Lidea and Kamenka rivers and a moat connecting these rivers and separating the castle from the city. The castle has an irregular quadrilateral shape with sides of about 80 meters long and two-corner towers. The walls are up to 15 meters high, two meters wide at the base and taper to 1.5 meters at the top.
