MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus and Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast has more than doubled since 2020, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said during a meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of Sverdlovsk Oblast and Belarus in Minsk on 24 February, BelTA learned.
“I am happy to welcome you to Belarus. We thank you for the attention which we receive in Yekaterinburg, and today we have the opportunity to host our dear friends. It is gratifying that the intensity of our contacts at all levels has significantly increased in recent years. The visits of representative Belarusian delegations headed by the prime minister to the INNOPROM industrial exhibition have become traditional. This year we are also planning to attend this event in Yekaterinburg in July. We are also preparing to hold this exhibition in Belarus this autumn. Of course, we are looking forward to seeing a representative delegation from Sverdlovsk Oblast at the event in Belarus,” Viktor Karankevich noted.

Among Russian regions, Sverdlovsk Oblast is one of Belarus' priority trade partners. “Mutual trade has been growing for four years in a row. Since 2020, it has more than doubled. Last year we added 10.5% and have every opportunity to exceed the $1 billion mark in the near future,” the deputy prime minister noted.

According to him, such progressive growth was possible thanks to the coordinated work at all levels, the agreements reached at the last meeting of the Business Cooperation Council. “We successfully cooperate in many areas, but time does not stand still and today we need to identify more points of growth to keep our momentum going. I would like to emphasize that the potential of industrial cooperation has not been fully exhausted. Joint projects to assemble hydraulic pumps and Osvei aircraft are being successfully implemented. Work is underway on options of organizing joint production of elevators. We continue cooperative supplies of Belarusian and Sverdlovsk-made engines, fire extinguishing systems, hydraulics and other components to machine-building enterprises of Belarus and Sverdlovsk Oblast. Today the Russian Shvabe holding company is launching the engineering center to design and manufacture products of complex shape from composite materials. These are big steps to cement our interaction,” Viktor Karankevich emphasized.
