Over half of farm machinery in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is Belarus-made

MOSTY, 14 August (BelTA) - Belarusian agricultural machinery accounts for over 50% of all farm equipment used in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Nikolai Khomutov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, said at the plenary session of the 4th Congress of Small Towns of Belarus’ Grodno Oblast and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

According to Nikolai Khomutov, the regions boast long-standing relations in agriculture and processing industries. “In 2024, our bilateral trade exceeded $58 million, with $28.2 million in exports to Belarus (a 15% increase from 2023) and $30 million in imports from Belarus (up 16%),” he said.

Nikolai Khomutov highlighted a 25% year-on-year growth in trade in Q1 2025, with imports surging 60% compared to the same period in 2024. “These figures confirm we are moving in the right direction,” he said.

Detailing equipment supplies, the deputy minister of agriculture and food resources of Nizhny Novgorod said Belarusian machinery sales see steady annual increase. “Nizhny Novgorod Oblast's fleet includes over 3,500 Belarusian tractors, about 400 harvesters, and other machinery. Belarusian machinery accounts for over 50% of the total,” he stated.

“In 2024, farmers acquired over 86 tractors, 19 grain harvesters, and 16 forage harvesters, with 50% equipment subsidies for agricultural enterprises,” Nikolai Khomutov said, adding that cooperation extends to crop production, with Nizhny Novgorod Oblast actively collaborating with Belarusian scientific institutions in agricultural crop breeding and seed production.

“New varieties of wheat and rapeseed have been introduced. This year, these varieties have already undergone testing and are now in commercial use in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast,” Nikolai Khomutov said and added that cooperation continues with Belarusian petrochemical enterprises as well.
