MINSK, 7 March (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to supply food and industrial goods to Myanmar and is interested in buying a whole range of goods from this country, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in a conversation with BelTA.

“There is a lot of interest. Myanmar has a population of more than 50 million. Food security is important for them. In this regard, the supply of Belarusian-made food products is on the agenda,” the minister said.
For example, a contract has already been concluded to supply milk powder and canned meat.

Myanmar also needs machinery to cultivate its agricultural land. “Therefore, setting up assembly plants for tractors, and purchasing of harvesting and other automotive equipment are on the agenda too,” the minister said.

Maksim Ryzhenkov dwelled on trade. “We always say that trade between true partners should be balanced. This facilitates the financing of trade as well. Therefore, in terms of our interest I would like to emphasize the acquisition of seafood from Myanmar given its very long coastline. This is fish, shrimps, other seafood that can be supplied to Belarus,” he said.

Belarus may also buy rice that is traditionally cultivated in Myanmar.

“In addition, our jewelry industry is interested in mining and purchasing precious stones in Myanmar, which can be used in the production of jewelry in our country, for example by such a company as Kristall,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said.

The development of cooperation between Belarus and Myanmar in the pharmaceutical industry is also promising. It is possible not only to supply finished products, but also to package them locally. The same applies to the supply of infant formula milk to Myanmar.

“We are looking for entrepreneurs in Myanmar who will be willing to organize an appropriate manufacture jointly with us. Then there is a guarantee that everything will work out and the products will have a steady demand in the market,” the minister said.

In addition to trade and economic cooperation, political issues and mutual support in the international arena are also being discussed.
