Belarus’ State Control Committee honors memory of Great Patriotic War victims

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) - On the eve of Victory Day representatives of the State Control Committee of Belarus honored the memory of those who perished during the Great Patriotic War, BelTA learned from the committee.

Representatives of the State Control Committee laid flowers at the Masyukovshchina memorial complex in Minsk. “These days, we pay tribute to the memory of our fathers and grandfathers who, at the cost of their own lives, defeated the Nazi German invaders during the Great Patriotic War and ensured peace and order on the territory of our beloved Belarus. They were driven toward the Great Victory by boundless love for the Motherland, the unity of the people, and the iron will of the Soviet Union’s leadership. They saved and defended the country during those harsh years, and now that same task lies before us,” Andrei Sambuk, Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee - Director of the Financial Investigations Department.
The memory of the victims of fascism was honored with a moment of silence. Employees of the State Control Committee also visited the museum commemorating the heroic deed of Soviet prisoners of war - the inmates of Stalag-352 in Minsk.

The Masyukovshchina memorial complex is a monument to prisoners of war and civilians who perished during the Great Patriotic War in Stalag-352, one of the largest death camps on the occupied territory of the former Soviet Union. More than 80,000 people died there.
